3M buying maker of people tracking devices
On Monday, 3M Co. announced its plan to pay $943 million for Cogent Inc., a maker of finger and palm print readers and face and eye recognition devices. Today, Israeli company Attenti Holdings is being acquired for $230 million. Attenti uses GPS and RF technology to track people on probation or patients in senior care centers.

(AP) -- Manufacturing conglomerate 3M Co. said Tuesday it has agreed to pay $230 million in cash for an Israeli company that makes technology used to keep track of people.
